The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Fatih Dönmez, announced that the research and development process for the environmental and surface disinfectant "BORTAM" containing boron minerals has been completed and mass production has begun.

In his statement, Minister Dunmez said BORTAM would be produced in aerosol form. Dönmez said: "As part of the fight against the Covid-19 outbreak, we have completed the research and development process of BOREL and started mass production in recent months. We quickly met disinfectant needs using local and national resources. Following BOREL, which provides hand hygiene, we are now starting to produce BORTAM, an environmental and surface disinfectant. BORTAM will be produced in aerosol form to sanitize the environment by eliminating bacteria and viruses from the environment. In the new normal period, we will be able to use it easily in crowded environments, public transportation, workplaces, schools and homes. It is a hygienic product that does not harm human health."

"BORTAM successfully passed the test"

dönmez stressed that, in addition to individual measures, the use of appropriate disinfectants to disinfect the environment and surfaces in public and private areas is also important to minimize the transmission rate and risk of infection in Covid-19 outbreaks, saying: "Boron's antibacterial and antiviral properties are well known. Scientific studies have shown that boron compounds are effective against viruses. At the National Boron Institute, BOREN, research was conducted on hand disinfectants and air disinfectants. In the first phase, hand disinfectant BOREL has been put on the market. As a result of ongoing research and development, we completed the BORTAM laboratory process, which consists of ethanol, TEG, boric acid and lavender oil. BORTAM successfully passed antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral tests. The results obtained with the values of the antibacterial effect determined according to the criteria are much higher than the expected values. After completing the certification process, BORTAM is ready for production."

new Boron-containing Products Coming Soon

minister Dunmez also said that they will launch new products containing boron by the end of the year. "At the end of this year, we will introduce sanitary products produced by boron mines to citizens for use in kitchens. We will produce the resources of our country in the most efficient way, without compromising on quality, competing with our peers and being able to export," Dunmez said."

the family of boron cleaning products continues to expand

on the other hand, in January 2019, the cleaning product boron was produced for the first time from boron minerals with antibacterial properties, and in November of the same year, colored, white and general-purpose boron was produced in powder and liquid form. In April this year, at a cabinet meeting to combat the new crown epidemic, Minister Dunmez introduced BOREL to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and brought good news: according to President Erdogan's instructions, BOREL has started production in April 2020. The virus broke out in China in the last months of 2019 and then spread globally. The first products have been distributed to the Ministries of Health, Home Affairs, Family, Labor and Social Policy, as well as to energy workers working on the ground in the fight against the Covid-19 outbreak. Following the recent launch of BORTAM, boron-containing cleaning products will also be available this year.
