methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK), chemical formula C6H12O, is a colorless transparent liquid with a special smell and 100.16 molecular weight. It has good solubility and volatility, can be miscible with a variety of organic solvents, slightly soluble in water. Methyl isobutyl ketone is an important organic solvent and chemical raw material, which is widely used in coatings, inks, resins, rubber, pesticides and pharmaceuticals. In the paint and ink industry, MIBK is used as a solvent to improve the fluidity and gloss of the product; in the resin and rubber industry, it is a raw material for the synthesis of a variety of polymer materials; in the pesticide and pharmaceutical industry, MIBK is used for the synthesis of a variety of active ingredients. As a multifunctional chemical raw material, methyl isobutyl ketone plays an important role in industrial production.

APPLICATIONS

(1) As a solvent: MIBK is used as a solvent in the production of coatings, inks and adhesives. Due to its good solubility and moderate volatilization rate, it helps to improve the fluidity and coating performance of the coating and improve the appearance of the coating And smoothness. At the same time, it can also be used as an extraction solvent and a crystallization solvent, for example, in the production process of pharmaceutical and pesticide intermediates.

(2) Chemical reaction medium: MIBK is often used as a medium for chemical reactions, especially in organic synthesis. For example, in the production of pesticides, pharmaceutical intermediates and fragrances, MIBK is often used as a solvent or reaction medium to help improve the reaction rate and product yield.

(3) Rubber and plastics industry applications: In the rubber and plastics industry, MIBK is used to manufacture rubber antioxidants and plasticizers, which can effectively improve the anti-aging properties of rubber and the flexibility of plastics, thereby extending the service life of products. In addition, MIBK is used as a synthetic solvent and additive for plastics and rubber.

(4) Manufacturing of other fine chemicals: MIBK can also be used to manufacture other fine chemicals, such as dyes, pigments, lubricating oil dewaxing agents, etc., and plays a key role in the production of these products.

Methyl isobutyl ketone -Properties

Colorless transparent liquid. Aromatic ketone smell. With ethanol, ether, acetone, benzene and other miscible, soluble in water (1-91%). Its vapor and air form an explosive mixture, which can cause combustion and explosion when exposed to open flame and high heat. Can react strongly with oxidants. In case of high heat, the internal pressure of the container increases, and there is a risk of cracking and explosion. Dissolves certain plastics, resins and rubbers.

Methyl isobutyl ketone -preparation

By industrial methyl isobutyl ketone distillation can be.

Methyl isobutyl ketone -Application

is an effective separating agent for some inorganic salts, separating plutonium from uranium, niobium from tantalum, and zirconium from hafnium. It can also be used as an anticoagulant and diluent for vinyl resins. Is a good medium boiling point solvent. Used as mineral dressing agent, oil dewaxing solvent, color film coupler, also used as tetracycline and pyrethroids and DDT solvent. It is also used in the organic synthesis industry.

Methyl isobutyl ketone -Safety

Inhalation of people can cause inhibition and anesthesia of the central nervous system. When the inhalation concentration is high, it can stimulate the respiratory tract and cause nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, etc. The staff shall be well protected and the workplace shall be ventilated. Store in a cool, ventilated warehouse. Keep away from fire and heat source. Prevent direct sunlight. Keep container sealed. Should be stored separately from the oxidizer.

Methyl isobutyl ketone -Introduction

4-methyl-2-pentanone is an organic compound. The following is about its nature, use, preparation and safety information:

Properties:
Appearance: 4-methyl-2-pentanone is a colorless liquid with a water-like odor.
-Density: Its density is about 0.812 g/mL.
-Solubility: It is soluble in ethanol, ether and acetone and other common organic solvents, but insoluble in water.

Uses:
4 -methyl -2-pentanone can be used as organic synthesis reaction solvent, especially in plant extract extraction and separation of widely used.

Preparation: There are many ways to prepare
4-methyl-2-pentanone. One of the common methods is to obtain from hexanone (2-pentanone) by methyl saturation reaction. This reaction requires the use of a methylating agent such as methyl magnesium bromide (MeMgBr) or methyl sodium iodide (MeI). By this method, a methyl group can be added to the carbon skeleton of the 2-pentanone molecule to give 4-methyl-2-pentanone.

Safety Information:- 4-methyl-2-pentanone
is toxic to humans, and exposure or inhalation may cause irritation and injury. Direct contact with the skin and eyes, as well as inhalation of vapors of the substance, should be avoided.

-Wear appropriate personal protective equipment such as gloves, goggles and respirators when used. Avoid fire and high temperature during use and storage. -In the event of a
leak, immediately take appropriate emergency measures and ensure good ventilation.
