CHARACTER

diethyl phthalate (DEP), chemical formula C12H14O4, is a colorless to slightly yellow transparent oily liquid with aromatic odor, commonly used as an organic solvent and plasticizer. DEP has good solubility and volatility, can be miscible with a variety of organic solvents, is an important raw material for the manufacture of coatings, inks, resins and adhesives. As a plasticizer, DEP can improve the flexibility, cold resistance and processing performance of plastics, and is widely used in the production of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) products. In addition, DEP is also used in the manufacture of fragrances, dye intermediates and as a solvent in the laboratory. As a multifunctional organic compound, diethyl phthalate is widely used in chemical, plastic, ink and other industries.

APPLICATIONS

(1) Diethyl phthalate can be used as a plasticizer, especially for plastics and cellulose resins, to improve their flexibility and processability. It is mainly with cellulose acetate, polymethyl methacrylate, polystyrene and other resins have good compatibility, is an important modifier of these materials.

(2) The compound can also be used as a solvent and lubricant.
