The South Korea Trade Commission proposed to impose a five-year anti-dumping duty on Chinese PET resin, which has previously imposed a temporary duty to protect the country's related industries.

The South Korea Trade Commission (KTC) recently proposed to the Ministry of Economy and Finance (Moef) to impose a five-year anti-dumping duty on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) resin originating in China. The move is aimed at products under the South Korea tariff code 3907.61.0000, with a proposed tariff range of 7 to 7.98 per cent, in line with industry expectations.

Chinese manufacturer Jiangsu Ceville tried to exclude recycled PET from the investigation, but failed to get approval from the South Korea government. Earlier, Moef had announced a four-month temporary anti-dumping duty on the products involved from July, valid until November 29.

KTC officially launched an anti-dumping investigation on China's PET resin on January 12 this year, and expressed a positive attitude towards levying temporary duties in the preliminary ruling. Behind this proposal is the anti-dumping investigation application submitted by South Korea TK Chemical Company to KTC in November last year, which accused China's PET resin dumping of causing substantial damage to relevant domestic industries.

the South Korea government is gradually promoting anti-dumping measures on Chinese PET resin, aiming to protect the South Korea industry from unfair trade practices.
