Covestro has successfully completed the mechanical completion of its new production line in the Map Ta Phut industrial park in Thailand, marking an important step in the global production of polycarbonate (PC) specialty films. The production line costs tens of millions of euros and is expected to create about 40 new jobs, giving new impetus to the company's development.
1. production line and technology upgrade
Thorsten Dreier, chief technology officer of Covestro, stressed that the new production facility is equipped with cutting-edge technology aimed at improving production efficiency and reducing carbon dioxide emissions. This initiative not only meets the urgent needs of customers in the Asia-Pacific region for innovative specialty films, especially in the field of medical technology, but also demonstrates the company's commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development.
Application and Market Development of 2. Products
since 2007, Covestro has operated specialty film production facilities in Thailand, offering a wide range of high-performance specialty films including Makrofol® polycarbonate film and Bayfol® film products. These films are widely used in various industries such as healthcare, mobility and identity documents, and have won wide market recognition for the company.
Doornbos Aukje, global head of Covestro's specialty films business, said that the launch of the new production line will speed up the time to market and expand the company's market supply in the Asia-Pacific region. The company will focus on the market, strengthen customer orientation, and promote the continuous growth of Covestro.
3. Environmental Certification and Sustainable Development
it is worth mentioning that since 2022, Covestro Mata's factory has received ISCC PLUS certification, enabling it to produce and supply products with balanced quality. Through the mass balance method, companies add bio-based or recycled raw materials in the early stages of raw material extraction and mathematically allocate them to finished products. This move not only saves fossil raw materials and reduces carbon dioxide emissions, but also ensures that the quality of the mass balance product is consistent with the quality of pure fossil products.
ISCC is an internationally recognized certification standard for biomass and bioenergy sustainability, covering all stages of the value chain and is widely used worldwide. Customers can use these products in their established processes to help achieve their sustainability goals.
4. Innovation and Future Prospects
covestro is not only committed to increasing production capacity and environmental protection, but also actively develops film products made from plant-based raw materials or recycled plastics. These innovative products will further enrich the company's product line and meet the market demand for environmentally friendly materials.
