Farmers protest: Haryana and Punjab Shambhu border tightened security
Security has been stepped up along the border Shambhu Haryana and Punjab provinces, and Haryana police used bulldozers to remove concrete barricades on Thursday to restrict farmers from further away from sites where they are protesting over various demands. Police in Punjab province dispersed the farmers from the protest site on Wednesday night. Following the operation, Patiara Senior Superintendent Nanak Singh said the entire road would be cleared and opened to traffic. In an interview with ANI, Singh said they did not use any force because the protesting farmers gave them cooperation. "Farmers have been protesting at the Shambhu border for a long time. Today, witnessed by the sheriff on duty, the police cleared the area after giving them proper warnings. Several people expressed their willingness to go home. So, they were put on buses to go home. In addition, buildings and vehicles here are also being removed. The entire road will be cleared and opened to traffic," he said. "The Haryana police will also start the operation. Once the road on their side is opened, traffic on the highway will resume. We don't need to use any force because there is no resistance. The farmers cooperated very well and they sat on the bus themselves," he added. Bharatiya Janata Party leader Fataijun Singh Bajwa stressed that his party stood with the peasants, while Bharatiya Janata Party chairman Arvend Khojriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bagwandt Man "played tricks with the peasants". Bajwa told ANI: "The central government sent a team of ministers for talks with farmers, but businessmen in western Ludhiana said they would not vote for them (the BJP) as all roads were closed. In order to secure Arvinder Kogeriwal a seat in the Federation House and win the Ludhiana western by-election, they detained Jagit Singh Dalewal and Salwan Singh Pandel. The Bharatiya Janata Party stands with the Punjab farmers, but Punjab Chief Minister Bagwant Man and Arvender Kogeriwal play tricks with the farmers."
