Indonesia's West Kalimantan province will build a large aluminum smelter with an investment of 50-59 trillion guilders to create 5300 jobs and help sustainable economic and environmental development. It is expected to be put into operation in 2027.

A major industrial development came from Kayanutara County, West Kalimantan Province, Indonesia-the Penebang Island Aluminum Smelter Project was officially included in the National Strategic Plan (PSN), marking a milestone upgrade of the country's aluminum industry. This super-large smelting base with a planned production capacity of three times the existing WHW plant is expected to create 5300 direct jobs and a total investment of between 50 trillion and 59 trillion rupiah.

The economic benefits of the

project highlight the strategic value of
as Indonesia's first integrated bauxite deep processing project, the smelter will realize the transformation of the whole industry chain from bauxite to alumina. According to official disclosure, after the factory is put into operation, the local fiscal revenue (PAD) of Kayanwutala County will historically break through the 100 billion guilder mark, and the regional economic development will inject strong momentum. The project side has made it clear that 2027 will be the first phase of the project to reach production node, when photovoltaic power generation and other supporting clean energy facilities will be put into operation simultaneously.

environmental protection technology to build green barrier
to meet the challenges of tropical environment, the project team specially designed low emission treatment system. By using the closed mineral roasting process, the sulfur dioxide emissions are expected to be reduced by 65% compared with the traditional process. The utilization rate of circulating water will reach a leading level of 92%, and an ecological monitoring center will be built to track changes in water quality in the surrounding waters in real time.

social benefits and industrial upgrading go hand in hand
"this is not only an industrial project, but also a regional revitalization plan. The project leader stressed. The project will give priority to the employment of local labor, and set up a special fund for fishermen skills transformation training. It is worth noting that the fifth generation digital smelting technology adopted by the plant will reduce the energy consumption per unit capacity by 40% compared with the industry average, providing technical support for Indonesia's aluminum industry to participate in international competition.
