Mitsubishi Chemical Group (MCG Group) has decided to stop the production of products at Mitsubishi Chemical Co., Ltd. (MCC) and Xinling Co., Ltd. (Xinling) Iwaki plant in Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture in phases by the end of March 2027.

The Xiaoming Bin factory produces ammonia and its derivatives, methanol, formalin, wood adhesives, fatty acid amides and ultra-high purity process chemicals. Xinling's Iwaki plant produces fine chemicals, TAIC and distilled products. Mitsubishi Chemical's Xiaominghama plant began operations in September 1937 under the name of Japan Hydrogen Energy Industry Company (later Japan Kasei Chemical Co., Ltd.), while Xinling's Iwaki plant was established in October 2020 due to the transfer and integration of some of Mitsubishi Chemical's products and the operations of the former Xiaominghama Distillation Institute into Xinling. The two factories produce various chemical products. In recent years, in response to the drastic changes in the market environment, the two factories have adopted measures to simplify operations and attract new businesses. However, despite this, it has become extremely difficult to ensure the profitability of the factories. As a result, MCC has decided to phase out production at these plants from March 2026, with a complete end of production at the end of March 2027. The MCG Group will support employees at these facilities by reallocating employees within the Group and providing re-employment support.
