Bilfinger, a global engineering firm, signs deal with Egypt's KIMA to expand chemical and fertilizer production in Aswan, marking Bilfinger's Middle East expansion.

Bilfinger, a world-renowned provider of engineering and maintenance services, has signed a major cooperation agreement with KIMA, Egypt's state-owned producer of nitrogen-based fertilizers and chemicals. The agreement is aimed at expanding KIMA's chemical and fertilizer production capacity in Aswan and jointly creating a new production facility.

Under the terms of the agreement, KIMA plans to build a new chemical and fertilizer plant on top of the existing plant in Aswan. The new plant is expected to produce 600 tons of nitric acid per day, which will significantly increase KIMA's local production capacity. Heguazi Abdel Meguid, CEO of KIMA, said: "As a global exporter of chemical products, this expansion project is essential to increase our production capacity in Aswan. It is expected that by the end of 2027, the new plant will enable us to produce 800 tons of fertilizer-quality granular ammonium nitrate per day to meet the needs of the domestic and foreign markets."

To ensure the smooth progress of the project, Bilfinger Middle East has dispatched a team of professional engineers to provide independent design review and on-site supervision services. As the Project Management Contractor (PMC),Bilfinger will fully supervise the engineering, procurement and construction phases of the project, including pre-commissioning, commissioning and performance testing, to ensure that all work meets KIMA's high standards.

This partnership not only marks an important step for Bilfinger to expand its business in Egypt, but also reflects KIMA's firm determination to enhance its production capacity and market competitiveness. KIMA, a fertilizer and chemical producer with a history of nearly 70 years, has invested US $0.3 billion million (about 0.269 billion euros) in the expansion project, which aims to further strengthen its position in Egypt and the global market through technological innovation and capacity expansion.

"Through this partnership with KIMA, we are significantly expanding our presence in the chemical industry in Egypt and the Middle East. With our deep engineering expertise in a wide range of industries in the Middle East, we are confident that we will be KIMA's partner of choice for efficiency and sustainability," said Christian Rugland, President of Bilfinger International Engineering and Maintenance. "We are committed to ensuring that our projects proceed to Bilfinger high standards."

Bilfinger has decades of experience in engineering and PMC services. This time to provide KIMA nitric acid and ammonium nitrate project supervision services, Bilfinger will be responsible for managing the project phase in Mumbai, India and Aswan, Egypt, to ensure that the project is completed on time, according to quality and quantity.

This cooperation will not only bring significant production capacity to KIMA, but will also add new impetus to Bilfinger's business expansion in the Middle East. The two sides will work together to promote the prosperity and development of the chemical industry in Egypt and the Middle East.
