INEOS is leading the development of one of the most advanced carbon dioxide storage sites in Europe through a Project Greensand alliance in collaboration with Harbour Energy and Nordsøfonden

resundskraft Kraft & Värme AB and INEOS signed an agreement on behalf of the Greensand project to explore the possibility of sequestering up to 210000 tons of carbon dioxide from Sweden per year in Denmark. The captured CO2 is planned to be safely and permanently stored in a Greensand storage facility located in the Danish part of the North Sea, with the first volumes expected to begin storage in 2028.

This cross-border cooperation marks an important step towards realizing the full potential of carbon capture and storage (CCS) in and around the Greater Copenhagen region, and highlights the critical importance of international cooperation to achieve climate goals and mitigate global climate change.

Stefan Hå kansson, CEO of Öresundskraft, said: "This agreement with Inoex means a lot to us. We are at the forefront of our European peers in developing sustainable and fully integrated CCS solutions to recover energy from waste. Our project has been awarded € 54 million from the EU Innovation Fund and is one of the first CCS projects in Sweden. Our goal is to provide climate-neutral district heating and achieve negative emissions
