Vietnam welcomes US president's suspension of reciprocal tariffs

The Vietnam News Agency quoted Foreign Ministry spokesperson Fan Qiudi as saying on April 10 that US President Donald Trump's decision to temporarily suspend reciprocal tariffs on imports from 75 countries, including Vietnam, is a positive move.

A reporter asked what comments Vietnam's Ministry of Commerce has on this and what actions Vietnam plans to take after the US President announced the suspension of reciprocal tariffs for 90 days on April 9. The spokesperson made the above response.

In the spirit of the comprehensive strategic partnership, Vietnam will negotiate a reciprocal trade agreement with the United States on the basis of mutual respect, with the aim of finding appropriate solutions for fair and sustainable trade for the benefit of the people and businesses of both countries, she said.

It embodies the spirit of the Vietnam-US comprehensive strategic partnership and the spirit of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries, the spokesman said.

She added that 2025 marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the United States, during which a series of commemorative activities will be held, including the exchange of visits by high-level delegations.
