Technip Energies gets FEED contract for Australian Jet Zero SAF project

Technip Energies has been awarded a Ulysses Project Front End Engineering Design (FEED) contract by Jet Zero Australia Pty Ltd(Jet Zero) for the conversion of bioethanol into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in Townsville, Australia.

FEED covers a wide range of engineering activities, documentation and planning to refine project cost estimates and develop detailed timelines.

The project aims to use Australian bioethanol and Technip Energies and LanzaJet technologies to produce 0.102 billion litres of sustainable fuel oil (SAF) and 11 million litres of renewable diesel per year by 2028. Technip Energies Hummingbird® technology converts bioethanol to sustainable ethylene, while LanzaJet alcohol-to-jet technology converts ethylene to SAF.

Sylvain Cabalery, senior vice president, sustainable fuels, chemicals and circular economy, Technip Energies, said: "We are very pleased to see the progress of the Ulysses project, which will open the first alcohol-to-jet fuel (SAF) plant in Australia. The global aviation industry is looking for ways to further secure supply and reduce emissions, and integrated technologies Technip Energies and LanzaJet are a smart solution that can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 70% while ensuring energy security."
