Singapore's position on US tariffs

Singapore Prime Minister Talks Trump Tariff New Deal Again! U.S. President Trump said on his social media platform that he had a phone call with Acting South Korea President Han Deok-soo to discuss tariffs, shipbuilding, South Korea purchases of U.S. liquefied natural gas, and payment for U.S. military protection for South Korea. Trump mentioned that during his first term, South Korea began paying billions of dollars for military protection, but the Biden administration ended the deal, shocking many. He also said there were conditions and possibilities for both sides to reach a "great deal" and that South Korea's top team was flying to the United States.

Singapore's prime minister, Huang Xuncai, expressed disappointment with the current US tariff and trade policies, saying that this is not a reform but a complete abandonment of the existing system. Although Singapore has a trade deficit with the United States, it is still subject to a 10% tariff. Mr Wong said Singapore would look for other partners to maintain economic resilience and maintain the global multilateral system through other means.
