The United States remains Vietnam's largest log supplier, accounting for 16.5 percent of Vietnam's total log imports.
Vietnam has a strong wood processing and wooden furniture export industry; however, according to the Vietnam Wood and Forest Products Association (VIFOREST), the production of trees grown in the country is still insufficient to meet the demand.
Therefore, Vietnam imports a large amount of raw wood material every year to support its wood processing industry.
In 2024, Vietnam's total imports of wood and wood products will be 2.81 billion US dollars, of which the import of raw wood materials will be nearly 2.4 billion US dollars, accounting for 85.2 percent of the total.
"In 2024, Vietnam imported logs worth $0.31636 billion million from the U.S. market, up 32.9 percent from 2023 and accounting for 11.2 percent of the total imported timber," said Wu Shih Huai, Vice President and Secretary General of the Vietnam Timber Trade Association. The three main categories of timber, sawn timber, round timber and veneer, contributed $0.31196 billion million to Vietnam's total timber imports from the United States, accounting for 98.6 percent of Vietnam's total timber imports from the United States."

In 2024, Vietnam imported more than 1.83 million cubic meters of logs. Among them, more than 303300 cubic meters of logs were imported from the United States, worth US $89.9 million. Compared with 2023, the import volume increased by 41.4 percent and the import value increased by 51.6 percent. The United States remains Vietnam's largest log supplier, accounting for 16.5 percent of Vietnam's total log imports.
In addition, the United States is the main supplier of sawn timber, with a supply of 428,980 cubic meters worth more than $0.2153 billion, an increase of 20.8 percent in volume and 29.6 percent in value compared to 2023.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, exports of wood and wood products reached $3.95 billion billion in the first quarter of 2025, an increase of 11.6 percent over the same period in 2024.
